Albert Lasek, 75, of East Moline, died Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2011, at Trinity Pathway Hospice, Bettendorf.
Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Schroder Mortuary, Silvis. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Monday at the mortuary. Burial will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Memorials may be made to the United Township High School Booster Club or University of Iowa Cancer Center.
He was born April 29, 1936, in Iowa City, to Clarence and Myra Aaron Lasek. He married Janice Akers, Dec. 23, 1955, in East Moline.
He served in the Navy from 1955 to 1959. Al retired from Caterpillar as a tool and die maker.
Al coached youth baseball in East Moline and Silvis for 25 years and was a referee for basketball and baseball for 15 years. Later in life, he traveled the country with his grandchildren competing in BMX racing. He was second in the state in his age group. He was a member of the Quad City Bicycle Club and completed the RAGBRAI in 2005 before turning 70. Albert's greatest joy in life was his family. Throughout his life, he supported UTHS sports and was an avid Bears and Cubs fan. You could always find Al in the stands supporting his family with all their sports and extracurricular activities.
Survivors include his wife, Janice; children, Jim (Sherry) Lasek, Pontiac, Ill., Cindy (Nick) Descamps, East Moline, and Rick (Kim) Lasek, Coal Valley; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Barbara Nolan, Laguna Hills, Calif.; and brother, Edward Lasek, East Moline.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
