Alicia Calvillo

Alicia V. Calvillo, 72, of Colona, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2013, at her home after a courageous battle with cancer. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Schroder Mortuary, Colona. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the mortuary. Burial will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Alicia was such a special wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to all who were so blessed to know her. Her thoughtful acts of kindness, generosity and love have left a multitude of people who deeply love and miss her. Alicia Velasquez was born in Eagle Pass, Texas, on March 6, 1941, to Melquiades and Sarita Velasquez. She married her soul mate Cosme "Tom" Calvillo on Feb. 29, 1956, in Eagle Pass. Alicia worked at Seaford Clothing for 13 years; she was a homemaker and devoted to her family. Alicia was a member of Casa de Oracion Emmanuel Church, Davenport, and worked in different types of ministries. She was very active in church, sharing the word of God wherever she went and to whomever she met. She ministered at the East Moline Correctional Center for 12 years and at Abundant Life Church of God in the food/clothing ministry. She would minister in songs in many churches she visited. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, reading and going to garage sales. She loved to spend time with her family, especially with her great-grandchildren; even until her final moments, she enjoyed spending time with them. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Cosme; daughter, Rosa (Raul) Torres, East Moline; sons, Roberto (Linda) Calvillo and Rafael (Sue) Calvillo, both of Pekin, Ill.; grandchildren, Raul (Ann) Torres, Sarah Torres, Ismael Torres, Jordan Calvillo, Alicia Calvillo; great-grandchildren, Issac, Miguel, Jasmine, Josiah Torres, Tiana Torres, Kaleigh Calvillo, Myah and Mason Calvillo and Xavier Fabian; sisters, Juanita Teneyuque and Erlinda Rodriguez; brother, Herman Velasquez. Alicia was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Mario and Arturo Velasquez.
