Bernadine McGee

Bernadine "Bernie" McGee, 78, of Colona, passed away Monday July 4, 2011, at Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, Silvis.

A funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Schroder Mortuary in Colona. Visitation will be 1-4 and 5-8 p.m. Friday at the mortuary. Burial will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family for her several organizations.

Bernadine was born Jan. 19, 1933, in Campbell Hill, Ill., the daughter of Arnold Henry and Wilhemine Homann Reuscher. She married Rollo McGee Oct. 7, 1950, in Moline. He passed away July 24, 1980. She graduated from United Township High School in 1950, and was a member of the Nifty Fifty Club. She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Geneseo.

Bernadine worked as a water meter reader starting in 1981, and was later appointed as village clerk for the village of Colona, retiring in April 1993. In 1984, she was honored as Citizen of the Year. She helped establish and was a charter member, director, past president and vice president of the Colona Township Lioness Club, where she was also the editor of the Paw Print newsletter for 22 years; she was vice president, president, secretary and charter member of Colona Historical Society, charter member of Colona Community Cancer Care and Loan Closet; on the Colona Grade School Board of Education for 13 years; a founding member of Colona, Green Rock, Orion United Way; past president and life member of Colona PTA; served seven years as a volunteer tutor for the LIFE program at Black Hawk College; a campaign chairman and past president for Red Cross; past leader and trainer for Girl Scouts for 11 years. She was on the Henry County Youth Services Bureau, personnel membership committee; trustee for the Twin Rivers District Library and on the board of the Colona Library. She helped bring the Bloodmobile from Peoria to Colona. She was a member of the board for Kings Daughters; past president of Henry County Food Pantries, a part of the Food and Shelter Board of FEMA; election judge for many years; launched kindergarten classes at Colona Grade School before it was part of the curriculum; member of Colona Civic Development Group; on the board at Friendship Manor; a member of Henry County Civil Defense (Emergency Shelter Defense Association) ESDA; and a member of the 6:30 Club.

Survivors include her children, Jody Floriez (Merle Boyce), Camdenton, Mo., Keri (Richard) Farrier, Aubrey, Texas, and Gale Hart (Frank Black), Port Byron. Grandchildren are Gregory (Maybelle) Siverly, Audi (Katy Bogle), Rollo, and Rosalinda Floriez; Shawna (John) Myers; Scot (Shawnel) Farrier; Jeb Hart (Danika Holmes). Great-grandchildren are Ryan and Rene Myers; Cody, Kami, Jessalynn, Kimberly, Kaylee and Evelyn Farrier; Adrien and Gabriel Hart and one on the way. She has a sister, Pauline Lindquist, Eureka, Calif.; several nieces and nephews; and very special friends, Lola Odendahl (her 2 hour buddy) and Joann Terry.

Bernadine was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Rollo; and a brother, Harold Lee Reuscher.
