Betty Hicks

Betty J. Hicks, 92, of Silvis, passed away on Monday, Jan. 14, 2013, at Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, Silvis. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Schroder Mortuary in Silvis with visitation one hour prior to service time. Burial will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens in East Moline. Memorials may be made to Illini Restorative Care Center, Silvis. Betty was born on Dec. 30, 1920, in Newton, Iowa, the daughter of Frank and Ida Goforth. She married Alphonse Hicks on June 7, 1969, in Holstein, Mo. He preceded her in death on Aug. 31, 2000. She was a lifetime member of VFW Woman's Auxiliary No. 8890 and the IRC Red Hot Club in Silvis. She enjoyed auctions, antiques, flea markets, watching QVC and collecting angels. Survivors include her daughter, Peggy Neely, Geneseo, Mary Ann Wood, Whitmore Lake, Mich., Laura J. Otterness, Milan; sons, Frank Otterness, Newton, and William "Bill" Otterness, Moline; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Betty was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three sisters; and two brothers.
