Betty Marner

Betty Jane (Shaw) Marner went home to be with the Lord on July 14th, 2021 at age 85.

Funeral services will be 11am Tuesday, July 20, 2021 at Edgewood Baptist Church, Rock Island. Visitation will be 4-6pm Monday at Schroder Mortuary, Silvis. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Memorials may be made to Pregnancy Resource Center, Moline.

Betty was born on September 18th, 1935 to Thomas and Mollie (Winters) Shaw in Manhattan, KS. The middle of their three children, she moved with her family to Silvis, Illinois and graduated from United Township high school in 1953 She married Arthur Marner on November 22, 1952. Together, they had seven children. She worked primarily as a secretary and bookkeeper and volunteered for many years at the Pregnancy Resource Center in Moline.

Betty was a strong-willed woman with a strong faith. She enjoyed her flowers and feeding the birds, occasionally even risking her safety to tend to them. She loved attending Pastor Ed’s Sunday school classes at Edgewood Baptist Church. But more than anything she loved her family and took great joy bragging about their exploits to her friends and neighbors.

Betty leaves behind six children, including Brad (Sally) Marner, Jane Moss, Kelli (Matt) Seitz, Dale (Connie) Marner, LeAnn (Doug) Garrison and Lora (Tim McKune) Loete; as well as 17 grandchildren, many of whom she took an active role in raising; and 24 great-grandchildren. She kept all of us on our toes, making us laugh, and keeping us close. We will miss her terribly.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband Art; parents Mollie and Thomas; sister Carol Smith; brother Jay Shaw; her oldest daughter, Marla and her husband Bill Floyd and her grandson Cale Floyd.

The family would like to thank the medical staff, especially the nurses, at Fresenius Kidney Center for the care given to Betty.
