Betty J. McFarland, 88, of East Moline, died Monday, May 16, 2011, at Trinity Pathway Hospice, Bettendorf.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Schroder Mortuary, Silvis. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time at the mortuary. Burial will be at Andover Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church in East Moline.
She was born Aug. 5, 1922, in Peoria, Ill., to Harry G. and Ruby Ellen Cardall Elzie. She married Floyd McFarland July 27, 1946, in Troy, Kan. He passed away Jan. 9, 1975.
She worked as a bookkeeper at Carver Lumber for several years.
Betty was a member and past president of Ladies Aid at Andover Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Milan American Legion, where she was past president of the Auxiliary. She was a Cub Scout leader and a room mother. Betty was a very giving person helping anyone around her in any way she could.
Survivors include her children, Stephen L. (Mary) McFarland, Davenport, Kathleen J. (Carl) Jourdan, Moline; grandchildren, Curtis (Rebecca) and Kyle Jourdan; great-granddaughter, Kyndra Jourdan; sister, Sheila Travis, Rushville, Ill.; several nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Brenda Gallagher.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; sisters, Mary Eberts, Irene Hines, Alice Lundberg and Susie Hartzell; brothers, Harry, Richard and James Elzie.
