Betty Jane Meier

Betty Jane Meier, 87, of Galesburg, formerly of Colona passed away Sunday, February 5, 2023 at Seminary Manor in Galesburg due to complications from Alzheimer’s.

Visitation will be 12-1pm Friday at Schroder Mortuary, Silvis followed by a graveside service at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline.

Betty was born September 9, 1935 in Colona, IL the daughter of Clyde and Bernice (Crouch) Kershaw.  She was raised on the family farm in Colona and graduated in 1952 from Geneseo High School where she excelled at sports and singing.  She married William “Bill” Meier in 1954 and they in turn raised their family in Colona.  During this time she was president of the Colona PTA, coached softball, and worked on many city initiatives.  Betty was co-owner of the M & M Laundromat with her sister Donna and sole owner of Betty’s Balloons.  She enjoyed music, golfing, bowling and camping.

Survivors include her children Kim McCormick, Peoria, Kyle (Linda) Meier, Colona, Karen (Matt) Berntson, Galesburg;  6 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers Darrell and Buzz; and sister Donna.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking memorials be given to Seminary Manor, Galesburg, IL in recognition of the wonderful care they gave Betty the last 10 months of her life.
