Betty J. Sheley, 82, of East Moline passed away Jan. 8, 2016 at Illini Restorative Care Center in Silvis.
A memorial gathering for Betty Sheley will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Windmill Family Restaurant in East Moline. The family would like for family and friends to join them for coffee and a piece of Betty's favorite carrot cake. Betty was born Sept. 5, 1933 in Prophetstown, IL the daughter of Chester and Leta Conery Ohrberg. She married Richard E. Sheley Sept. of 1953. Betty graduated from UTHS. She worked as a secretary for both EMSD 37 and the Rock Island County Board. Betty retired from the payroll dept. of John Deere Harvester in 1993 and continued to work for JoAnn Fabrics. She was a member of Professional Business Women. She was the family seamstress sewing some of her daughter's clothes and making clothes and costumes for her grandchildren Betty also loved to dance. Survivors include her daughters Kathleen (Tim) Hughes of Port Byron and Joyce Bryant of East Moline; sons Mike Sheley of Silvis and Don (Lori) Sheley of Port Byron; grandchildren Matt (Nicole) Hughes of Springfield, IL, Jared (Clarissa) Hughes of East Moline, Eric (Charity) Bryant of Kewanee, Lindsay (Matt) Bryant of Galva, Jessica (Greg) DeGrange of Vacaville, CA, Kara (Rob) Storey of Des Moines and Kelsey, Parker and Karly Sheley all of Port Byron; 13 great grandchildren; sister Mary Alice Ohrberg of DesMoines, IA and her close friends Pam Goodhart with Home Instead and Marty Hines who delivered Betty's Meals. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, a great grandson Charlie, a sister Marilyn Anderson and a brother Virgil "Butch" Ohrberg. The family would like to thank the staff in the Med. Tele. unit at Genesis and IRC Hospice for all the care given to Betty and the family.
