Betty Smashey

Betty L. Smashey, 81, of Colona, passed away Saturday, Jan. 10, 2015, at Genesis Medical Center, Silvis. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Schroder Mortuary, Colona, with visitation two hours before service time. Memorials may be made to the family. Betty was born Aug. 12, 1933, in Kewanee, the daughter of Clarence and Louise VanStechelman Hartshorn. She enjoyed volunteering at Silvis United Methodist Church, the Colona Senior Center and Aspenwood Care Center. She also loved bingo and crocheting. Survivors include her daughters, Carlene Hall, Charlene Bowers and Pamela Schwager, 13 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Betty was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Patti Truitt; one brother and one sister.
