Carl Bond

Carl D. Bond, 81, of Silvis passed away Feb. 19, 2016 at Illini Restorative Care Center in Silvis. Visitation will be 4-7pm Monday at Schroder Mortuary in Silvis. Graveside services will be 10:30am Tuesday at Rock Island National Cemetery. Anyone wishing to attend the graveside services should meet at Schroder Mortuary at 9:30am. Memorials may be made to the Gale Vogler Scholarship at United Township High School. Carl was born July 3, 1934 in Martinsburg, IA the son of Herbert and Maxine Hollingsworth Bond. He married Mary Dunlap March 11, 1961 in Moline, IL. She passed away March 7, 1993. He served in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict and was part of the first American Military in Turkey. Carl retired from RI Arsenal. After retirement he worked as a bailiff at Rock Island County Courthouse for 20 years. He was very active in his community and was the founder of the Silvis Country Music Festival Run and the UTHS Hall of fame. He was also very active in several other organizations. He enjoyed sports, politics and golfing. He also enjoyed flowers and was recipient of the Silvis Garden walk flower contest. Survivors include his children Susan (James) Lawson of East Moline; Tamara (Scott) Kucharz of Missouri City, TX, Timothy (Geraldine) Bond of Silvis; grandchildren Justin and Jennifer Danay, Zachary and Jeremy Kucharz, Samantha (Cameron) Ellison and Jamie Bond; great grandson Cameren Plumb; siblings Phillip (Pat) Bond and Stephen (Carol) Bond of Ames, IA. Carl was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son Gregory Evan Bond and a sister Virginia (Carl) Engh.
