Charles E. Smith, 71, of Moline passed away Thursday, Feb. 10, 2011, at Trinity Rock Island.
Visitation will be 2-4 Saturday at Schroder Mortuary, Silvis. Burial will be at Pleasant Point Cemetery in Port Byron at a later date.
Charles was born July 18, 1939, in Appleton City, Mo., the son of James and Queen Tillery Smith. He married Dorothy Turner Nov. 22, 1963. She passed away Jan. 7, 1994.
Charles worked and retired from AP Greens Refractories. He enjoyed horses, attending auctions and being outdoors. Most of all, Charles loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his daughters, Penny (Bruce) Sutton, Port Byron, and Patty (Pat) Turner, Bettendorf; grandchildren, Jim Sutton, Moline, Tyler McCaughey, Bettendorf, Julie (Brian) Pitra, Geneseo, Dawn (Dave) Streeter, Bettendorf, Philip Shuler, Rock Island, and Sondra Shuler, Davenport; six great-grandchildren; sister, Elsie Boyd and a brother, Kenneth (Jean) Smith, both of Mexico, Mo. Charles was preceded in death by his lovely wife, Dorothy; his parents; brother, James Smith; and a daughter, Georgia Thibadaux.
