Charles Leslie (Les) Parker, surrounded by his loving family, passed away Friday, March 30, 2012, at 10:34 a.m. at Rosewood Care Center after a lengthy illness.
Services will be noon Wednesday at Schroder Mortuary in Silvis. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary. Burial will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens in East Moline.
Les was born at Moline Public Hospital on Oct. 22, 1924, to Charles C. and Anna Stuber Parker. He grew up in New Addition East Moline. He attended East Moline grade schools, and, in his senior year at East Moline High School, he was drafted and left to serve in World War II. He was in the Air Force serving as Sergeant in Italy. Les returned as postgraduate and finished his senior year in 1946.
He married Mary Lou Bobb Jan. 11, 1952, at the Silvis Baptist Church; they just celebrated their 60th anniversary.
Les worked for the Rock Island Railroad for 31 years until they closed in 1980. He was happiest building and repairing things. He was a jack-of-all-trades and could fix anything. He was a member of Silvis United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years; daughter Pam Ludwig, of Silvis; sons, Randy, of Silvis, Robert, of Silvis, and Scott (Trish), of Rock Island; brother-in-law, Bill (Marilyn) Bobb, Lansing, Mich.; sister-in-laws, Anita Bobb, of Sun City, Ariz., and Janet Bobb, of East Moline; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Les was preceded in death by his mother and father; brother, Lester Dale, in-laws, Lawrence and Georgia Bobb; and brothers-in-law, Lawrence (Sonny) Bobb and Donald Bobb.
