Daniel L. Thorngren

Daniel L. Thorngren, 86, of Silvis passed away May 28, 2023 at Friendship Manor in Rock Island.

Funeral services will be 11:00am Thursday at Schroder Mortuary in Silvis. Visitation will be 5-7pm Wednesday at the mortuary. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Memorials may be made to Rescued in Moline.  

Daniel was born September 19, 1936 in Moline, Illinois the son of Raymond and Ruth (DeCamp) Kleist. He served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. Dan married Phyllis Cypert August 1, 1959 in Edmund, Oklahoma. He worked at Illini Hospital as Director of Purchasing, retiring in 1986. Dan and Phyllis were Master Gardeners. Dan was a founding member of the Silvis Garden Club, greenhouse, and community gardens. He received a Mayors Appreciation Award for a lifetime of serving his community. In his later years he enjoyed researching family genealogy and any family gatherings.  

Survivors include his loving wife of 64 years, Phyllis; sons Dan Jr. (Melissa) Thorngren, Paul (Melinda) Thorngren, and David (Leslie) Thorngren; grandchildren Dr. Dan (Amanda) Thorngren III, Joseph Thorngren, Jordan Thorngren, Kyle Thorngren, Cassandra (Connor) Scott, Emily (Fiancé Nick) Thorngren, and Paul K. (Baylie) Thorngren; great grandson Beau and one on the way.  

Dan was preceded in death by his parents, a brother James Thorngren, and a sister Marilyn Cox.
