Darell Gravitt

Darrel D. Gravitt, 81, of Port Byron passed away on Monday, Jan. 14, 2013, at Trinity Rock Island. Visitation will be noon to 2 p.m. Friday at Schroder Mortuary, Silvis, followed by a graveside service at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family. Darrel was born on Oct. 28, 1931, in Davenport, the son of Albert and Lydia Gravitt. He served in the Air Force during the Korean War. Darrel married Yvonne Nightingale on Oct. 19, 1954. He retired as a supervisor at Alcoa after 30 years, and was a member of a VFW in Missouri and the American Hunting Club. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and spending time with his great-grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Yvonne, son, Allan, both of Port Byron; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Darrel was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and a son, Robert.
