David Kendall

April 4, 1947 — June 30, 2014

David Michael Kendall, 67, of Silvis, died Monday, June 30, 2014, at his home. Funeral services are 11 a.m. Monday, July 7, at Peace Lutheran Church, 20828 Friedens Road, rural Port Byron. Burial will be at Friedens Cemetery, Port Byron. Visitation is 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday, July 6, at Schroder Mortuary, Silvis. Memorials may be made to Peace Lutheran Church or LeClaire Baptist Church. David was born April 4, 1947, in Moline, son of Kenneth Kendall and Harriet Hicks Kendall. He married Linda Swanson on Oct. 23, 1976, at Augustana Lutheran Church, Andover. David graduated from Bettendorf High School in 1965. He attended Iowa State Teachers College from 1965-66. He graduated from Eastern Iowa Community College in 1967 with a diploma in mechanical drafting. David moved to San Diego, Calif., for basic training in the U.S. Navy from January to April 1968. He served at the Naval Air Station at Lemoore, Calif., until April 1969. At that time, he received reassignment to a command group in Norfolk, Va., where he remained until being honorably discharged in 1971. He served as an illustrator draftsman while in the Navy. From 1971-72, he worked at Quad City Die Casting Co. in Moline. David began working at the Rock Island Arsenal in 1972. In 1981, he received a machinist apprentice appointment and graduated as journeyman machinist. After working 39 years at the Rock Island Arsenal in various capacities, he retired in 2011. David was a very active member of Peace Lutheran Church, where he was serving on church council. He also enjoyed attending Bible study and prayer group at LeClaire Baptist Church. David was a devoted husband and father. He loved God and his family, and he will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Linda, Silvis; son, Dr. Michael Kendall, West Burlington, Iowa; sister-in-law, Helene Kendall, Arlington, Texas; and nephew, Christopher Kendall, Dallas, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Paul Kendall and Dr. Alan Kendall; and nephew, Stephen Kendall.
