Delbert P. Way, 94, of Colona, passed away Monday, June 27, 2011, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.
Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Memorials may be made to Clarissa C. Cook or the Colona American Legion Post 1233. Schroder Mortuary in Colona is assisting the family with arrangements.
Delbert was born Aug. 31, 1916, in Centralia, Mo., the son of Roy Way and Nora Smith. He married Mary J. Jones in 1972, in Macomb, Ill. She preceded him in death in 1987.
Delbert served in the European Theatre in the Army during World War II, where he also received a Purple Heart. He worked as a machine operator at John Deere, retiring in 1976. He enjoyed gardening.
Delbert is survived by his son, Raymond (Arlene) Fry, Coal Valley; grandchildren, Jeff Fry, Colona, and Sherry Terry, Coal Valley; great-granddaughter, Lacy; brother, Jim Way, Colona; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, three sisters and two brothers.
