Donna Jean Downey, 87, of Dubuque, Iowa, died Friday, Sept. 12, at her home. Funeral services are 2 p.m. Tuesday at Schroder Mortuary, Silvis. Visitation is noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Dubuque. Donna was born on Nov. 2, 1926, in East Moline, the daughter of Frank and Addie Loding Miller. She married Wayne A. Downey in 1945. He passed away in 1978. She was a secretary in the 1940s for John Deere. In the '70s, she worked as a cook at Area Residential Care, and she later worked at Hartig's as a clerk, retiring in 1983. Donna enjoyed square dancing with her husband until his death, trips with the 62 Plus Club and playing cards with her card club friends. When she lived in East Moline, she was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Rose Chapter 626 in Silvis. She traveled extensively throughout the U.S, and visited Hawaii twice. She also traveled to Germany, Luxembourg, Austria, Switzerland, Australia and New Zealand. Survivors include her children, Kathy (Tom) Barrington, Dubuque, Brian (Kathy) Downey, Davenport, and Michael Downey, Dubuque; grandchildren, Laura (Andy) Swinehart, Elkhart, Ind., Holly (Adam) Byers, Marion, Iowa, Tim Downey, Davenport, Tyler and Brooke Barrington, both of Dubuque; and six great-grandchildren. Donna was preceded by her husband and a granddaughter, Tiffany Barrington.
