Donna Hakeman

Donna Jean Hakeman, 78, of Colona went to heaven January 27, 2022. She was the light of her husband Don’s life and will be shining brightly to show him the way back to her for eternity.

Funeral services will be 10:30am Tuesday at St. John’s Lutheran Church, East Moline. Visitation will be 4-7pm Monday at Schroder Mortuary, Colona. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Memorials may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church.

Donna was born May 9, 1943 in Fort Madison, IA the daughter of Thomas and Charlotte (Conn) Britton. She graduated from UTHS in 1961 and married Don Hakeman November 18, 1961. She retired from John Deere Harvester as a Decision Analyst in 1994 after 30 years of service. While her girls were in school, she was always a “room mother” and was also a brownie and girl scout leader. Donna and her husband were very involved in all the extracurricular activities of all their family and friends. She became a mother for her brothers and sisters at a very young age. She never stopped being a mother to them or any of the family members and many friends she made.

Donna was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, East Moline where she was also involved in Altar Guild, Ladies Aid, and LWML. She was also a member of Colona Township Lioness. Donna and her husband camped at Bagley, WI for over 50 years where they watched their daughters, grandchildren, and great grandchildren grow up and enjoy the river and family time together. She loved spending time with her family and friends and enjoyed camping, playing games, and reading.

Survivors include her husband Don; daughters Dawn Wiegel of East Moline and Diane (Russ) Kosche of Rock Island; grandchildren Mitch and Christine Wiegel, Tyler and Trista Wiegel, Mason and Brooke Wiegel, Tanner Wiegel, Taryn (Jamie Drake) Kosche, and Cade Kosche; great grandchildren Zak, Reese, and Avery Wiegel; sisters Connie Yager and Arlene Showalter and brothers Charlie (Joan) Britton, Jim (Jeannie) Britton, Rodney Britton, and Steve Britton.

Donna was preceded in death by her parents, son in law Kurt Wiegel, brother Gary Britton, sister in law Sally Britton, brother in law Ray Yager, and a nephew Scott Yager.
