Dorothy was born May 16, 1916, in Manilla, Iowa, daughter of Leroy and Theresa Shipman. She married Herbert Pobanz on Dec. 15, 1939. He passed away July 6, 1991.
Dorothy retired from the Colona Library after enjoying several years of employment. She always enjoyed her work and had the important job of keeping a scrapbook of Colona's happenings. She also taught art class, with many of her students being young children and teenagers. At Dorothy's retirement, one student mentioned that Dorothy taught her everything she knew about art. Dorothy also taught ceramics for more than 30 years and was active in the Geneseo Art League.
She enjoyed writing her memories about her life growing up and her family. Dorothy was a very loyal, loving and caring woman who had a wonderful sense of humor and will be missed.
Dorothy is survived by several nieces and nephews and a son, Mark A. Pobanz. She was preceded in death by her husband and a brother, Leyden Shipman.
The family would like to thank the entire staff at Friendship Manor for the wonderful compassion and care they gave Dorothy while she was there.
