E. Elaine Castaneda, of Carbon Cliff, passed away at her home on Dec. 26, 2012, at the age of 75. The visitation and memorial service will be held on Monday, Dec. 31, at Green Rock Free Will Baptist Church, located at 918 2nd St., Colona. The visitation will be noon to 2 p.m. with memorial service immediately following at 2 to 3 p.m., with the Rev. Sam Henderson officiating. Memorial donations may be made to Gold Star Wives of America. Elaine was born in Chadwick, Ill., on Feb. 8, 1937. She graduated from Chadwick High School in 1955, and attended some college classes. She worked as a lead technical data clerk at the Rock Island Arsenal Chemical Command. Elaine enjoyed spending time with family, camping, gardening, watching animal life at her home, playing the piano and flute and being a part of the Red Hat Ladies Society. Elaine was a member of Gold Star Wives of America. Elaine was predeceased by her husband, Manuel J. Castaneda Sr.; granddaughter, Jessica Bushong; parents, Rufus and Clara Kahler; brothers and sisters, Lila Miatke, Gerald Kahler, Arlon Kahler, Loren Kahler and Thelma Ford. Elaine is lovingly remembered by her children, Cindy Bushong, Silvis, Deanna Crandall, Atlanta, Ga., Manuel Castaneda Jr., Durand, Ill., and Marc Castaneda, Phoenix, Ariz.; grandchildren, Nicholas Castaneda, Daniel Spindler, Beverly Castaneda, Catie Crandall, Angela Crandall, Anthony Castaneda, Manny Castaneda and Dylan Castaneda; brothers, Dewayne Kahler, Tucson, Ariz., Mick Kahler, Mount Carroll, Ill.; sisters, Wilma Smith, Davenport, Lois Lanier, Barstow, Janice Parrino, Denham Springs, La., Mavis Guidice, Hemet, Calif., Diana Brown, Rocklin, Calif.; and a tremendous legacy of over 100 nieces and nephews.
