Elsie Sawyer

Elsie L. Sawyer, 83, of Colona passed away Friday, July 25, 2014, at Rosewood Care Center, Moline. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Schroder Mortuary, Colona. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the mortuary. Burial will be at Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family. Elsie was born March 15, 1931, in DeWitt, Iowa, the daughter of Dwight and Dorothy Leuders Dopler. She married Doyle Sawyer April 30, 1949, in Iowa City, Iowa. He passed away June 2, 1999. Elsie was a custom drapery designer and decorator. She also operated the family business, Sawyer Landscaping, with her late husband. She was a member of First Southern Baptist Church and the Colona Lioness Club. Elsie was also a Henry County Election Judge and enjoyed volunteering for various organizations. Survivors include her children, Georgia (Ron) Bloom, Coal Valley, Sheela Sawyer, East Moline, Doyle Sawyer, Byron, Ill., Diane (Neil) Carroll, Colona, and John (Jania) Sawyer, Geneseo; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; brothers Frank and Dwight Dopler; sister-in-law, Shirley Dopler; and a brother-in-law, Tim Foutch. Elsie was preceded in death by her parents; husband; granddaughter, Cari DeClercq; brother, Harvey Dopler; and a sister, Betty Foutch.
