Everett Sumner

Everett L. Sumner Sr., 92 years of Street, Md,, died on Tuesday, March 7, 2017, in Harford Memorial Hospital in Havre de Grace, Md. He was the husband of Isabell Marie (Thomas) Sumner who passed away on July 23, 2012. Born on March 28, 1924, in Amelia County, Va., he was a son of the late Everett and Essie Cook Sumner and a WWII veteran of the Merchant Marines. Following his military service, Everett worked for SKF Industries in Timonium, Md. In 1967, he moved to Illinois and worked for Rock Island Arsenal as a machinist and was a member and past master of Silvis Lodge 898, A.F. & A.M. Upon retirement, he and his late wife moved back to Maryland to be near their family. One of the family's favorite memories was a trip to the Smithsonian Museum of Air and Space where Everett proudly shared with his granddaughter that he had crafted parts that were on the Apollo spacecrafts. He is survived by four children, Nancy Hood of Bel Air, Md., Robert H. Sumner and his wife, Linda of Street, June Mundis and her husband, Donald of Conowingo, Md., Everett Sumner Jr., and his wife, Ida of Street; three grandchildren, Jackie Galluzzo and her husband, Ben of Pylesville, Md., Ryan Sumner and his wife, Lisa of Silvis, Jessica Carothers and her husband, Rob of Milan; six great-grandchildren, MaKenna Carothers, Ryder Carothers, Daniel Sumner, Ryli Sumner, Samuel Galluzzo and Matthew Galluzzo; two stepgrandchildren, Richard and Teresa; four stepgreat-grandchildren, Shawn, Anthony, Ellie and Megan. He was preceded in death by a son, William Sumner in 1981 and a grandson, James M. Vaughn on July 15, 1997. Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 11, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at Harkins Funeral Home, 600 Main Street, Delta, Pa., where the funeral service will begin at 5:30. Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, March 14 at 11 a.m. at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. The service will be conducted by Silvis Lodge 898, A.F.&A.M.
