Florence Newkirk

Florence B. Newkirk, 93, of East Moline, passed away Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013, at Illini Restorative Care Center in Silvis. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Schroder Mortuary in Silvis. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary. Burial will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Martin Cemetery in Trenton, Mo. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society. Florence was born Nov. 6, 1919, in Trenton, the daughter of Roy and Daisy Sawyer Daniels. She married Glenn Newkirk on Aug. 11, 1939, in Trenton. He passed away in 1967. Florence retired from the East Moline Correctional Center in 1982. She enjoyed her retiree lunch group and spending time with her friends and family. Survivors include her children, Gary (Kathy) Newkirk, of Moline, and Melinda (Allen) Reamy, of Hampton; grandchildren, Jody Newkirk, Mike Newkirk, Craig Newkirk, Lisa Mattison and Michelle Williams; six great-grandchildren and one on the way; and sister, Laura Sue Daniels, of Trenton. Florence was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister and four brothers.
