George Kern

George W. Kern, 93, of Colona passed away May 20, 2018 at Genesis Medical Center Illini Campus.

Funeral services will be 10am Friday at Schroder Mortuary in Colona. Visitation will be 4-7pm Thursday at the mortuary. Burial will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens in East Moline. Memorials may be made to Green Rock Freewill Baptist Church.

George was born Sept. 3, 1924 in Lone Tree Township in South Dakota the son of Walter and Hazel Olafson Kern. He served in the Marine Corps during WWII. George married Betty Jean Hayes Feb. 3, 1946 in Moline, IL. She passed away Dec. 5, 2008. He was a police officer in Colona in his younger years and also worked at IH. He retired from the custodial department of Moline High School. George volunteered at the Colona Food Pantry and enjoyed junking and tinkering in the garage.

Survivors include his children Larry (Judy) Kern, Robert Kern and Pamela Kern; grandchildren Brian (Carmae) Kern, Kevin (Rhonda) Kern, Christina Kern, Alexis Hawkins, George Kern, Bryan Kern; great grandchildren Zedekiah Kern, Kyle Kern, Syrus Kern and Savanna Kern

George was preceded in death by his wife and a sister Gertrude Bedford.
