Gny. Sgt. Jeremy Eugene King, 34, of (Green Rock) Colona, passed away on Wednesday, April 24, 2013. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday, May 6, at Colona United Methodist Church, 1709 Cleveland Road, Colona, after which he will be laid to rest at Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Visitation will be from noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday at Schroder Mortuary, Silvis. Gunnery Sgt. Jeremy King was born on March 4, 1979, in Jacksonville, Fla., the son of Dale King and Debra Anderson. After graduating from United Township High school in 1998, Gunnery Sgt. Jeremy King enlisted into the United States Marine Corps on April 21, 1999. Since then he has served three tours overseas and multiple short-term missions. Jeremy received the following medals: two Navy & Marine Corps Achievement medals, four Marine corps Good Conduct medals, a Navy & Marine Corps Commendation medal, three Sea Service Deployment ribbons, two Global Wars on Terrorism Service medals and one National Defense Service medal. He loved fishing, hunting and his best friend, Jack. Gunnery Sgt. Jeremy King will be missed by his 4-year-old son, Cash Christopher King, Hernando, Miss.; father, Dale (Kim) King, Colona; mother, Debra Anderson, Coldwater Miss.; brother, Michael (Tammie) King; nephews, Cpl. Robert Nelson Jr., Kamran King and Makoy King; nieces, Rachel Nelson, Rianna Nelson and Makenzie King, all from Colona; and his many beloved friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Charlie and Ruby King and Melva (Wick) and Tressie Franks.
