Gwendolyn “Gwen” E. Grymonprez, 90, of Geneseo passed away June 23, 2022 at Illini Restorative Care Center, Silvis, very peacefully as her Hospice music therapist sang Amazing Grace.
Visitation will be 9-11am Tuesday at First United Methodist Church, Geneseo. Funeral services will start at 11am with a luncheon to follow. Graveside services will follow at 1:30pm in Dayton Corners Cemetery, Colona.Schroder Mortuary, Colona is assisting with arrangements. Memorials may be made to United Women in Faith.
Gwendolyn was born February 26, 1932 in Castleton, IL the daughter of Martin and Lena (Liggett) Owen. When she was 4, her parents blessed her with her sister and only sibling, Wanita “Tilly” Owen. Gwen was a 1950 graduate of Wyoming Community High School. In 1954 she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics from University of Illinois in Champaign, IL. She later served a dietetic internship at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, WI. Gwen worked as a dietician in several institutions including a Galesburg facility, Hillcrest Nursing Home of Geneseo, and Hammond Henry Hospital of Geneseo. Gwen met her husband, Leonard Grymonprez, while caring for his father during her time as a home healthcare worker. Leonard and Gwen were married September 9, 1971 in Colona, IL. Gwen retired from her dietetic work and instead helped Leonard on their farm. Leonard passed away October 1, 2004. Gwen was a member of United Women in Faith, card ministry, funeral luncheon committee, and meals on wheels all at First United Methodist Church, Geneseo. Gwen was also the head of the Soup Supper at the church during the Christmas walk in Geneseo and enjoyed sewing. She was honored by receiving the church’s “Special Mission Recognition” in December 2013 and “Woman of the Year” award in February 2014.
Survivors include her sister, Wanita “Tilly” Owen, Sister-in-Law, Elizabeth “Sis’ Heiar, and several nieces and nephews.
Gwen was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a sister in law Barbara Grymonprez, and two brothers-in-law Edward Grymonprez and Lester Heiar.
A sincere “Thank You!” goes out to the staff of Liberty Village and Illini Restorative Care who so compassionately and lovingly cared for Gwen during her journey.
