Hazel N. Sletten, 84, of Colona, passed away Monday, July 8, 2013, at Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, Silvis.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, Colona, where she was an active charter member. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Schroder Mortuary, Colona. Burial will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church or the Colona Food Pantry.
Hazel was born Nov. 22, 1929, in Reedsburg, Wis., the daughter of Clinton J. and Lucy M. Shelby Cole. She married Laurence Sletten on Nov. 19, 1946, in Elroy, Wis.
Hazel volunteered for many organizations in Colona and was founder of the Colona Township Food Pantry in 1981. She was a member of the Colona American Legion Auxillary, a charter member of the Colona Lionesses and was a member of Disabled American Veterans Auxillary. Hazel chaired the Colona Chapter of the Salvation Army and was active with Project Now.
Survivors include her husband, Laurence; children, Larry C. (Linda) Sletten, Geneseo, Bruce E. (Lenora) Sletten, Double Oak, Texas, and Clarence A. (Shirley) Sletten, Colona; 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Betty Jane Brokaw, Tucson, Ariz. She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers and a sister.
