Henry “Hanko” Vargas, 71, of East Moline passed away Tuesday, February 20, 2024 surrounded by family at Genesis Medical Center Illini Campus in Silvis.
Visitation will be 1-3pm Sunday at Schroder Mortuary in Silvis. Memorials may be made to the family.
Henry was born November 23, 1952 in Moline, IL the son of Enrique and Nellie (Puga) Vargas. He worked for the Rock Island Lines railroad and John Deere. His favorite job was as a bartender for Buckhorn, Cheers, and Friends Circle Club. Hanko enjoyed golfing and playing softball and was an avid Bears and Cubs fan.
Survivors include his sisters Audrey Prado of Silvis and Linda (Tony) Gomez of Silvis; nieces and nephews Nellie (Devin McMillen) Brock of East Moline, Tony Jr. (Lisa) Gomez of Alabama, Tina (Mike) Bonilla of Silvis, and Benita (Jim) Schulte of Port Byron; great nieces and nephews Derek, Dylan, Myka, Drake, Madison, Ashley, Kristeena, Michael, and Victoria; several great great nieces and nephews and many close friends.
Hanko was preceded in death by his parents, sister Debbie Miranda, twin brother Harry Vargas, and nephew Nacho Prado Jr.
The family would like to thank the ICU staff at Illini Hospital for the care given to Hanko and his family.
