James Alexander

February 16, 1944 — October 9, 2016

James M. "Big Jim" Alexander, 72, of Colona passed away October 9, 2016 at Hope Creek Care Center in East Moline.

Funeral services will be 10am Saturday at Schroder Mortuary in Colona. Visitation will be 4-7pm Friday at the mortuary. Burial will be at Dayton Corners Cemetery in Colona. Memorials may be made to the Colona Community Fire Department.

Jim was born Feb. 16, 1944 in Lebanon, MO the son of Dwight and Ida "Florence" McFarland Alexander. He married Carol "Sue" Eggleston March 2, 1963 in Lebanon, MO.

"Heavy" worked for John Deere Foundry as an inspector for 32 years retiring in 1990. He also volunteered on the Colona Fire Department for 25 years where he served as Chief. Jim was also a member of the Colona American Legion Post 1233.

Survivors include his wife Sue of Colona; daughters Stacy Taylor of Matherville, IL and Shelly (Brad) Maldonado of Silvis; son Tony (Brenda) Alexander of Colona; grandchildren Janette, Nick, Emma and Baily; great grandchildren MacKenzie and Noah James and a sister Betty Horton of Kansas City, MO.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Marguerite Powers.
