James L. Sharpe Sr., 93, of Moline, formerly of Silvis, passed away Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014, at his home in Moline. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Peace Lutheran Church in Port Byron. Visitation will be 2-6 p.m. Tuesday at Schroder Mortuary in Silvis. Burial will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens in East Moline. Memorials may be made to Peace Lutheran Church. James was born Nov. 28, 1920, in LaBelle, Mo., the son of John and Sarah Shoemaker Sharpe. He married Barbara Hammond March 9, 1950, in Erie. She passed away May 19, 2001. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. James worked as a car inspector for Rock Island Lines until his retirement. He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Port Byron. He loved spending time with his friends and family. Survivors include his children, Kay Trask, of East Moline, James Jr.(Marlo), of Des Moines, Iowa, John (Lyn) Sharpe, of Townsend, Mass., and Kevin (Diane) Sharpe, of Moline; 15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and a brother, David. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barb; son, Kenneth; brothers, Carl, Bob and Donald; and an infant sister, Rebecca.
