James Dean Washburn, 81, of Rock Island, died Thursday, Jan. 1, 2015, at Hope Creek Care Center, East Moline. As he wished, cremation rites will be accorded. There will be a private celebration of life memorial service at a later date. Schroder Mortuary, Silvis, is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorials may be made to QC Animal Welfare, Animal Aid Humane Society or Rock Island County Animal Control. He was born May 13, 1933, in Rock Island, to Leonard and Julia Ann Depover Washburn. He graduated from Rock Island High School in 1951. He married Martha Richardson and Juanita Morgan, later marrying Lorraine Keuhl in 1976 in Rock Island. He was owner of Washburn's Refrigeration and Appliance Store in downtown Moline. He enjoyed traveling, restoring old motorcycles and collecting vintage cars. But mostly he had a very deep love for all animals, fondly naming all of his German schnauzer dogs Fritz. Survivors include wife, Lorraine; son, Ron; daughters, Tara Cohen and Kathy (Bob) Schrieber; Lorraine's daughters, Suzy (Bob) VenHorst, Linda (Wilfred) Enders and Janice (Larry McHenry) Keuhl; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Jeanne Washburn. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Glenn, Walter and Leonard.
