Janice "Jan, Jannie or JC" Claire Hollister was born on Wednesday, June 29,1932 in Moline Public Hospital, Moline, Illinois, the daughter of Harold Claire and Marguerite (Greer) Hollister. Her education and graduation was at Port Byron Grade School June 1946 and Port Byron High School June 1950. She worked at Golden Seed, Cordova, detasseling corn, Sandstrom Paint in Port Byron, John Deere Harvester, East Moline and American Air Filter, Engineering Department, Moline, IL. She met Darrel Randolph at John Deere and they were engaged Christmas of 1952. They married on Monday afternoon September 28, 1953 at the Port Byron Methodist Church when he was stationed at Fort Campbell, KY and at home on leave after basic training. The Rev. W. W. Marzahn performed the double ring ceremony before members of the immediate families. The marriage lasted 68 years and 8 months and was blessed with three children, Cathy (3-29-1956 to 2-8-2019), Gary and Susan. I called her "My Pretty Lady and she replied, "You are my Handsome Man when you don't look so serious."
Janice loved and enjoyed traveling. Some of the travels she talked about are as follows: Trips to Glastonbury, CT to visit her ancestors house built in 1675 by second generation John Hollister; Trips to research other family genealogies in Illinois, Iowa and Kentucky; Trips out west to visit Rocky Mountain Park, Mesa Verde, Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, Waterton-Glacier in US and Canada; Snow bird trips (1998 to 2017) to the Venice and Lake Placid Florida areas including Myakka River S.P., Key West, Bok Towers Gardens, St. Augustine Alligator Farm, Highlands Hammock S.P ., Circle B Bar Reserve, Black Point Wildlife Drive on Merritt Island, Corkscrew Swamp, Everglades Area, Okeechobee Town /Lake. Local couples we associated with in Florida were Don & Shirley Hemphill, Dwight & Gabby Dopler, and Frank & Sandy (Jan's cousin) Dopler.
Janice certainly followed the principle of "Service to others before self." Her first interest was serving her husband, children, and grandchildren. She was a room mother at the Carbon Cliff grade school for each child. On her creative side she made serval ceramic pieces that are very nice. She also enjoyed bowling, fishing, photography, observing birds/wildlife (particularly _in our yard until they got in the flower beds), spending time with family, going to family gatherings square dancing, and shopping for great bargains. She served many holiday meals for the expanded family.
