John Elmore Hood, 95, of Silvis, passed away on Monday, Feb. 4, 2013, at his home. Cremation rites will be accorded and private services will be at a later date. John was born on Feb. 7, 1917, in Seaton, the son of Frank and Ina Nelson Hood. He married Alice Joyce Noel on April 8, 1943, in Biloxi, Miss. She passed away on Jan. 17, 2013. He served in the Air Force from 1940 to 1946 and retired from John Deere Plow Works. John enjoyed fishing, hunting, mushroom and arrowhead hunting, collecting coins, country drives and bird watching. He is survived by his son, Ralph (Nancy) Hood, Milan; daughters, Joyce (Jim) Draper, New Port Richey, Fla., and Joan (Jerry) Lemburg, Bluegrass; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Beulah Collins, Tennessee, and Eleanor Gilmore, Monmouth; special friend, Frank Meirhaeghe. John was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son, Ronald; grandson, Langdon; and a brother, Frank.
