John S. Sim, 84, of Moline, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2015, at Heartland Healthcare Center, Moline. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Schroder Mortuary, Colona, with visitation one hour prior to service time. Burial will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or Beacon of Hope Hospice. John was born Feb. 20, 1931, in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of Hugh and Ella Milne Sim. After the passing of his mother, John was raised by his aunt and uncle, Annie and Alfred Milne. He married Helen Knox on Aug. 5, 1964, in Moline. She passed away Jan. 15, 2004. John was a butcher at Eagle Food Stores, retiring Jan. 9, 1993, after 41 years. He enjoyed fishing with his family in Minnesota, was an avid Cubs fan and loved dancing with his wife, Helen, and going to the casinos and race track. He also loved his dog, Maxine. Survivors include his children, Sherry (Ralph) McCarty, Steven (Cindy) Sim and Maryanne Crimmins; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Jean Elg; and a sister-in-law, Margaret Specht. John was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Connie Landuyt; sisters, Doris Lehnhardt, Alice Schmidt and Elaine Coder; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Newlon.
