John Zimmer

John L. Zimmer, 83, of Rock Island, formerly of Osage Beach, Mo., passed away Friday, March 21, 2014, at Genesis Medical Center Silvis after a lengthy illness. Per his wishes, cremation rites will be accorded and a memorial service will be held at a later date. John was born Oct. 21, 1930, in Rock Island, the son of Milton and Ursula Goode Zimmer. He worked as a pharmacist for more than 40 years. John enjoyed playing bridge, collecting cars and traveling. After retirement, he volunteered much of his time. John also loved spending time with his dog, Rodney. Survivors include his children, Julie Bennett, Jayne Wouters, Laura Hernandez, John M. Zimmer and Kyle Zimmer; grandchildren Levi and Micah Bennett, Brandy Fisher, Ryan Beckhart, Joseph McCorkle, Carlos and Kristine Hernandez and Jessica, Kyle and Kade Zimmer; seven great-grandchildren; and sisters, Dorothy Stoker and Jeanne Price. John was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Peg Urie and Pauline Forgy; and an infant son, John Kent.
