Joseph Rangel, 73, of Bettendorf, died Tuesday, May 28, 2013, at his home. Services are 1 p.m. Friday at Schroder Mortuary, Silvis. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. today. Burial is at Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family. He was born July 22, 1939, in Silvis, son of Cleofus and Trinidad Terronez Rangel. He graduated from United Township High School and received an associate's degree from Black Hawk College. He served in the Marine Corps during Vietnam. He married Linda Wiley Sept. 10, 1977, in Moline. He worked as a plumber at the Rock Island Arsenal for 44 years, retiring in 2008. He was a lifelong member, past commander and active member of the Color Guard at VFW Post 8890. He enjoyed working crossword puzzles and was a diehard Cubs fan. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Survivors include his spouse, Linda, Bettendorf; children, Darren (Kelly) Mlekush, Bettendorf, Denise (Mark) Farrier, Moline, Doreen Coopryder, Moline, and Diane (Ernie Saldivar) Welsh, Moline; grandchildren, Magen Mlekush, Ashley Gengler, Justin Gengler, Laykin Mlekush, Kaitlyn Farrier, Jordon Johnson, Zachary (Alison) Farrier, Alexa Sunderbroek and Julia Mlekush; five great-grandchildren; and siblings, Rita (Dennis) Lee, Rudy (Irene) Rangel, Vincent Rangel, Augie (Cindy) Rangel and Michael Rangel. He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and a sister.
