PLEASANT VALLEY -- Kenneth L. "Ken" Thompson, 82, of Pleasant Valley, died Friday, March 29, 2013, after an illness of 15 months. Cremation rites have been accorded. Private services will be held at a later date. Ken was born in Wapello, Iowa, to Rodney and Myrtle Thompson. He served in the Army during the Korean conflict. He worked production at Alcoa for 30 years. Ken and his wife Dorothy "Doti" were married 56 years and were owners of Pleasant View Boarding Kennels in Bettendorf for 25 years. Ken is survived by his wife; daughters, Lori McVey and Lisa (Steve) Diercks; grandchildren, Angela McVey, Jamie McVey, Justin (Kelly) Diercks and Spencer Diercks; great-grandchildren, Zachary, Emilee, Keegan, and Kayden; brothers, Bob Thompson and Bill (Sharon) Thompson; sisters, Betty (Robert) both deceased, and Judy St. Clair; adopted brother, Ted Lahti; brother-in-law, John (Peg) Kapinski; mother-in-law, Evelyn Kapinski, age 99; and many special nephews and nieces. Ken loved his family, traveling on the Delta Queen Steamboats (his favorite), Tri State Tours "Mystery" trips with special friends of the Possum Club, and longtime member of Catfish Jazz Society with special friends who gave hugs and hugs.
