Laurence A. Sletten, 93, of Colona passed away Nov. 8, 2016 at Illini Restorative Care Center in Silvis.
Funeral services will be 10am Saturday at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church in Colona. Visitation will be 4-7pm Friday at Schroder Mortuary in Colona. Burial will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens in East Moline. Memorials may be made to Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church.
Laurence was born Aug. 22, 1923 in Ontario, Wisconsin the son of Clarence and Paula Larson Sletten. He married Hazel Cole Nov. 19, 1946 in Elroy, WI. She passed away July 8, 2013. He served in the Navy during WWII, continued to serve in the reserves. Laurence was a dairy farmer and a truck driver in Wisconsin. He later retired from International Harvester in East Moline after 20 years. He also worked for the Mortuary in Colona for over 35 years. He was a founding member of Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church in Colona, a charter member of the Colona Lions Club, Colona American Legion Post 1233, and 40 & 8 campground in Atkinson. Laurence was also a former Green Rock Alderman. He loved camping, fishing, spending time with his family and was an avid Cubs fan.
Survivors include his children Larry C. (Linda) Sletten, Geneseo, Bruce E. (Lenora) Sletten, Double Oak, Texas, and Clarence A. Sletten, Colona; 7 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; sister, Janet Craven, Grand Hills, CA and Marion Sletten, of Chicago.
Laurence was preceded in death by his parents; wife Hazel; 2 sisters and 2 brothers.
