LeRoy S. Stewart, of Silvis, passed away Sat. Jan. 13, 2018 at Genesis Medical Center Illini Campus in Silvis after a brief illness.
Private family services will be held Wed. Jan. 17 at Schroder Mortuary in Silvis.
LeRoy was born Dec. 27, 1917 in Bloomfield, NE, the son of Sam and Elsie Stewart. He married Mimmi Binder Apr. 25, 1942 in Tacoma, WA, who died in 2002. He was a Silvis resident for 73 years but kept close contact with relatives in Nebraska, including surviving brother, Galen (Irene).
Children include Marla Jeane (Jeff), William (Mary), Tom (Sharen), Jim (Tammy), and John (Nan). Nine grandchildren include Erin, Andrew, Rebecca, Eric, Greg, Diane, Jeff, Kyle, and Sam, as well as five great grandchildren.
He retired from East Moline Metal Works/Ametek in 1977, and was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in East Moline. He served as a WWII Army Medical Corps veteran 1941-1945 in the Aleutian Islands and Okinawa.
Any memorials can be directed to John Stewart, 3320-14th St, Moline, IL 61265, for the local Veterans Memorial being erected in Bloomfield, NE.
He had 100 years of life, a wonderful birthday celebration several weeks ago, and a hundred years of family and friends which he treasured. He was a model for us all, full of quiet strength; thanks for the memories.
