Lynn Brooks

Lynn "Papa" Brooks Sr., 62, of Rock Island, died Friday, Sept. 20, 2013, at Forest Hill Health Care, East Moline. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 27, at The Word Church in Rock Island. Visitation will be two hours prior to the funeral service. Lynn was born Aug. 19, 1951, in Rock Island, to James Elmer Brooks and Lucille Smith. He married Katie Angel on Sept. 29, 1973, in Rock Island. He retired from Deere & Co. Lynn loved to sing and dance, especially to James Brown. Lynn is survived by his wife, Katie Brooks; children, Shaquanda Brooks and Lynn Brooks Jr., both of Rock Island, Latasha Brooks, Georgia, and Kasandra Brooks Overstreet and Christal Brooks, both of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; sisters, Ethel (Bobby) Bassett, Rock Island, and Linda Brooks, Davenport; brother, Harold Brooks, Springfield, Ill.; 20 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. Lynn was preceded in death by his parents, James and Lucille Brooks; daughter, Rosheena Carlette Brooks; great-grandson, baby Mikey; four brothers, Robert, Leonard, James and Russell Brooks; and three sisters, Lucille Roberts, Marcella Hart and Margaret Brooks.
