Marion A. Hough, 89, of East Moline passed away May 10, 2017 at Iowa Masonic Health Facilities in Bettendorf.
Cremation rites have been accorded. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7pm on Wednesday, June 21, 2017. A memorial service will be held June 22, 10am at Schroder Mortuary in Silvis. Burial will follow at Rock Island National Cemetery.
Marion was born June 22, 1927 in Lueders, Texas, the daughter of Curtis and Adella Maslowski Hinson. She married Merrel Hough Sept 6, 1947 in Nogales, AZ, only 2 months after she spotted him reading the paper on a bench and said "that's the man I want to marry". He passed away Jan. 25, 2006. It's highly suspected they are doing the swing to Glen Miller and he's likely "goosed" her again, for which he laughingly earned the name "you big dumb shit".
Marion was a beloved wife and mother, an excellent seamstress, she enjoyed playing tennis, dancing, reading, gardening, sculpting and drawing. She was a dedicated Cubs fan and baked the best bread and cinnamon rolls her children have ever tasted. She had a wonderful sense of humor and a great quick wit. Even as she struggled to understand and communicate through Dementia, when asked how she was, her response was generally "mean, ornery and disagreeable"...although she was the kindest, sweetest and most tender hearted woman we knew.
Survivors include her son Stanley (Wanda) Hough of Thonotosassa, FL, daughters Vicki Hicks of East Moline, Shelagh (Robert) Barbour of Belmont, NC; Grandchildren Todd and Tyler Masters, Stephanie Owenby and Susan Morrow, Jennifer and Audrey Hicks, Jason and Ashley Allen, Jason and John Barbour; 20 great grandchildren and 8 great great grandchildren ; Sister, Georgie Byerly of Tuscon, AZ.
Marion was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Bill Williams, husband Merrel and a daughter Teresa Sorenson.
The family wishes to give a special thanks to the caring staff of Iowa Masonic Heath Care Facility and to Hospice.
