Marvel E. Lewis

Marvel E. Lewis, 101, of East Moline passed away Monday, November 6, 2023 at her home.

Funeral services will be 10:00am Friday, November 17, 2023 at Christ Church Quad Cities in East Moline. Visitation will be 4-6pm Thursday at Schroder Mortuary in Silvis. Burial will be in Rock Island National Cemetery. A Memorial fund will be established.  

Marvel was born December 3, 1921 in Unionville, Missouri the daughter of Everett F. and Leta E. Halley Brown. She graduated from Kirksville High School in 1939, Truman University, formerly Kirksville State Teachers College, with a BS in education in 1943 and with a Master’s in 1951. She was also a member of Delta Zeta Society. Marvel married Robert “Bob” Lewis June 10, 1950 in Kirksville, Missouri. He passed away July 17, 1991. Marvel and Bob always told their children “School is important. Go to college, study hard, but be sure to have a good time too.”

Marvel was a teacher in East Moline Schools for 28 years, retiring in 1980. She then volunteered at Illini Hospital for 30 years. She was an active member at Christ United Methodist Church in East Moline where she was treasurer for United Methodist Women. She enjoyed golfing, traveling, and was an avid bridge player for many years in many different bridge clubs.

Survivors include her children Linda (Gabriel Terronez) DeMont of East Moline, Lecia Lewis of Simpsonville, SC, and Robert (Cristina) Lewis of Lewisville, TX; grandchildren Brian DeMont, Beth DeMont, Brent Lewis, Josiah Lewis, and Joel Lewis and a great grandson Julian DeMont.

Marvel was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
