Marvin A. Salmonson, 80, of Silvis, passed away May 14, 2013, at Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, Silvis. Funeral services will be noon Friday at Schroder Mortuary, Silvis, with visitation two hours prior to service time. Burial will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family. Marvin was born Jan. 30, 1933, in Hampton, the son of Fred and Elizabeth Gerhardt Salmonson. He graduated from United Township High School. He served in the Army during the Korean War. He married Bette Scorpil Young on Dec. 24, 1968, in Hampton. He worked as an assembler at John Deere Harvester retiring in 1989. Marvin enjoyed working crossword puzzles, feeding the birds and going to breakfast with his old school friends. Survivors include his wife, Bette; daughter, Kimberly (Michael) Tarrant, Oceanside, Calif.; sons, Allen (Vickie) Young, Moline, and Gregory (Julie) Young, Moline; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and brothers, Lee (Peggy) Salmonson and Ruben (Molly) Salmonson. Marvin will be deeply missed by his beloved wife of 44 years and his family. Marvin was preceded in death by his parents; a sister; and four brothers.
