Mary Louise Brent, loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away on Saturday, October 20, 2018, with her family by her side. She was 92 years old.
A funeral service will be held graveside on Wednesday, October 24, 2018, at 10:00 am at Green View Memorial Gardens, 1201 Avenue of the Cities, East Moline, IL 61244. In place of flowers, Mary's family suggests donations to the Clarissa C. Mary was born August 5, 1926, in Silvis, Illinois to William and Edith Parsons. She graduated with a B.S. in Education from Illinois State University at Normal, IL in 1948.
During the early years of her career, Mary taught high school in Normal and Mendota, IL and had several other teaching jobs in central Illinois.
In 1959, she moved west to Rock Island, IL to teach for Rock Island School District 41. For her first eleven years, Mary taught physical education at the high school. During those years she also coached Tennis, Golf, Gymnastics, and Track.
Later, she taught students at Franklin and Edison Junior High School and Audubon Elementary.
After influencing the lives of thousands of students for the better, Mary retired from teaching in 1989.
At home, Mary was an avid gardener, and her house and yard proved she was blessed with a green thumb. She also loved music. Symphonies, Classical, and Big Bands were all favorites of hers. Mary also loved to play golf and tennis.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents and brothers William, Robert, and James Parsons, and a sister Isabelle Smith.
She is survived by her two children, Kathleen (Will) Adams of Bettendorf, IA and Jay (Susie) Brent of Merritt Island, FL.
There are four grandchildren, Michael and David Adams, Katelyn (Adams) Ramteke, and Kasey (Brent) Lustik, as well as two great-grandchildren Quinn and Eliana Ramteke, whose photos she would share with many people she would run into.
There are additional family and friends too numerous to list here, but they are not forgotten.
