Mary Medina

September 25, 1926 — January 7, 2016

Mercedes "Mary" Medina, 89, of Silvis passed away Jan. 7, 2016 at her home surrounded by her loving family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10am Tuesday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Silvis. Visitation will be 3-7pm Monday with a rosary at 7pm at Schroder Mortuary in Silvis. Burial will be at Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Mary was born Sept. 25, 1926 in Silvis, IL the daughter of Benito and Feliza Anguiano Terronez. She married John B. Medina April 19, 1947 in Silvis. He passed away Feb. 4, 1987. Mary worked as a welder and assembler at Buddy L. in Moline. She was a member of Legion of Mary and the VFW Post 8890 Auxillary. She loved spending time with her family and cooking for everyone, especially catering and making Mole. She also enjoyed spending time with her close friend Pauline Medina going out to eat and to the casino's. Survivors include her daughters Mercedes Medina of Silvis, Dolores (Candido) Rodriguez of Rock Island, Blaze (Jaime) Galindo of Rock Island and Felicia (Brian) King of East Moline; sons Jesus (Trish) Medina of Davenport and John (Lori) Medina of Silvis; foster daughter Linda Schweickhardt-Baker of Rock Island; 21 grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren and 3 on the way; sisters Jessie Vallejo of Moline, Manuela Munos of Silvis, Cruz Rivera-Cervantes of Silvis and Dolores (Richard) Esparza of Colona; brothers Benedicto (Belin) Terronez of Moline, Joseph (Rebecca) Terronez of Silvis and Alvino Terronez of Silvis; sister in law Yvonne Terronez of East Moline and brother in law Isaias Ayala of Silvis. Mary was preceded in death by her husband John, lifetime partner Delfino Castenada, grandson Donavin Keim; siblings Theresa (Louis) Sierra, Gabriella (Tony) Moreno, Exigia Terronez, Antonia (Marcelo) Perez, Lupe Terronez, Angela Ayala; brother in law Macario Vallejo, Julian Rivera, Jose Cervantes and a sister in law Elizabeth Terronez.
