Mildred Macik, 88, of East Moline, passed away peacefully at her home on March 22, 2012.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Schroder Mortuary, Silvis. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Monday at the mortuary. Burial will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Mildred was born Sept. 22, 1923, in Omaha, Neb., the daughter of Joseph and Helen Miljush. She married Edward Macik June 4, 1944, in Moline. Mildred and Edward celebrated 50 years of marriage in 1994.
During World War II, Mildred was a welding inspector for Martin Bomber Plant in Omaha. In later years, she graduated from the Sterling School of Cosmetology and worked as a beautician. Mildred loved being a homemaker, spending time with her family and entertaining family and friends. She was a culinary expert who collected many recipes and loved cooking. She also enjoyed reading and gardening.
Mildred was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Edward, on Nov. 1, 1998; sisters, Julie Ballan and Mary Taggart; and brothers, Stanley and Mike Miljush.
Survivors include her daughters, Linda (David) Fratzke, La Grande, Ore., and Cindy (Charles) Major, East Moline; son, Edward (Sara) Macik, Bella Vista, Ark.; grandsons, Matthew (Amy) Fratzke, Justin (Cinda) Fratzke, Scott (Katie) Peterson and Kyle Macik; granddaughters, Erika (Fratzke) Matheson and Anna Macik; great-grandsons, Jacob and Nicholas Peterson and Garrett, Colin and Landon Fratzke; sisters, Dorothy Pokrajac, Moline, Helen Kushlakus, Moline; and sister-in-law, Darline (Miljush) Akins, Moline; and a host of nieces and nephews.
