Paul H. Jones, 101, of Port Byron, IL passed away Sunday, December 8, 2024 at Illini Restorative Care Center.
Services will be 10am Saturday, December 14, 2024 at Christ United Methodist Church in East Moline. Visitation will be 4-7pm Friday at Schroder Mortuary in Silvis. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens in East Moline. Memorials may be made to Christ United Methodist Church, East Moline/Silvis Rotary, or the scholarship fund at United Township High School in Irma's name.
Paul was born November 11, 1923, in Silvis, Illinois, the son of Paul Hollyman and Daisy Pearl White Jones. He graduated with the East Moline High School class of 1942. Paul enlisted in the Navy’s pilot program and received his wings in 1944. Paul married his childhood sweetheart Irma Louise Heinze on June 7, 1945, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hannibal, Missouri. Irma passed away December 5, 2014 after 69 wonderful years of marriage.
After WWII, Paul continued flying in the Naval Air Reserves, eventually retiring as Lieutenant Commander. Paul also worked as Advertising Manager with the East Moline Herald and Moline Dispatch, retiring in 1984. Paul was active in the community serving as an Alderman in the City of Silvis and as a member of the East Moline Chamber of Commerce, Silvis Fire Department, East Moline/Silvis Rotary Club, Masonic Lodge, AmVets, American Legion, and Illini Hospital Board to name a few.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents, wife, grand-daughter Elizabeth Simmons and great-grandson Peter Cabrera.
Survivors include his children, Carl Paul (Georgia) Jones of Fullerton, CA, Linda Louise (Allen) Spivey of Bloomfield, IA, and Marilyn Sue (David) Simmons of Louisville, KY; grand-children Rebecca Solkamans, Jennifer Cabrera, and Karl Jones of California, Angi Preciado of New York, Reid Spivey of Iowa, and Susan Brown and James Simmons of Kentucky; and fourteen great-grandchildren.
