Reuben Salmonson

October 2, 1925 — May 15, 2013

Reuben Salmonson, 87, of East Moline, passed away May 15, 2013, at Trinity Rock Island. A service to celebrate his life will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Zion Lutheran Church in East Moline, where Reuben was a life member. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Monday at Schroder Mortuary in Silvis. Burial will be at Moline Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Zion Stained Glass Fund. Reuben was born Oct. 2, 1925, in East Moline, the son of Fred and Elizabeth Gerhardt Salmonson. He graduated from United Township High School in 1944. He married Mollie Miner at Zion Lutheran Church on June 23, 1950. After working for John Deere Tech Center in Moline, Reub enjoyed many years of retirement, including wintering in Texas. He played football and basketball for Coach Holmes at UTHS. He liked watching all Panther sports and looked forward to playing golf with the guys once a week. Reuben was an avid Chicago Cubs and Bears fan. Survivors include his wife, Mollie; daughter, Pam (Eldon) Partridge; sons, Mike and Dan (Marcy); three grandchildren, Erica, Hanna and Molly; a brother, Lee (Peg) Salmonson; many nieces and nephews; and sisters-in-law, Jackee, Beverly and Bette. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Paul, Fred, Harold, Bill, Don and Marvin; and a sister, Alice. The family would like to thank nurses Angie and Meghan for the special care given to Reuben at Trinity Rock Island. Reuben will be missed by all his family, friends and neighbors and was loved by all.
