Rev. Karen Birdsley

Karen A. Birdsley, 63, of Colona, passed away Sunday, Aug. 14, 2011, at her caregiver's home in Colona.

A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Faith Walk World Outreach Center, Silvis. Burial will be at Cordova Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the church to help with medical expenses.

Karen was born April 24, 1948, in Moline, the daughter of Everett and Florence Decker Birdsley. She graduated in 1971 with a bachelor's degree from Life Bible College and was ordained in The Foursquare Church. She served in ministry in Monterey Park, Norwalk and Hawthorne, Calif., and in Hutchison, Kan. She pastored a church in Mount Washington, Calif., for 11 years and received the Foursquare 25-year service award in 2001. Since 2005, she has served as singles pastor at Faith Walk World Outreach Center in Silvis.

Karen worked at Bank of America in Los Angeles, Calif., for many years, where she specialized in network administration. She was a Microsoft Certified Professional and received special recognition as a people developer. She retired in July 2011 as information technology manager at Green Chevrolet Chrysler in East Moline. Karen was a Mary Kay consultant. She enjoyed fishing, motorcycling, playing music on her guitar, saxophone or keyboard, fixing anything electronic and talking with friends at Starbucks. She was considered part of the family by many close friends.

Survivors include three sisters, Beulah Porter, Morrison, Marilou (Don) Simpson, Milan, and Mildred Hillerd, Peoria; two brothers, Richard (Janie) Neer, Chessapeak, Va., and Harold (Becky) Birdsley, Owensboro, Ky.; sister-in-law, Jean Birdsley; and many nieces and nephews. Evelyn Smallwood, of Colona, was Karen's caregiver and friend of 56 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Larry.

Karen's family and friends would like to thank Green Chevrolet Chrysler for their care and support during Karen's extended illness.
