Robert Anderson, 82, of Silvis, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2012, at Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, Silvis.Services will be noon Friday at Schroder Mortuary, Silvis. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time. Burial will be at Rock Island Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Animal Aid Humane Society in Moline or Hope Creek Care Center in East Moline.Robert was born Sept. 25, 1929, in Moline, the son of Margaret and Jack Caufield. When Jack Caufield died in an auto accident, Margaret married Daniel Anderson who later adopted Robert. He was a graduate of United Township High School class of 1947. He worked for the Rock Island Lines as an electrician until he enlisted in the Army, serving four years with the rank of sergeant first class. In July of 1950, while stationed at Ft. Custer, Mich., he married Barbara Adams, of Rock Island, in the chapel at Ft. Custer. After leaving the service he worked again at the Rock Island Lines and later operated a service station in Silvis. In September 1965, he began working for Deere and Co. as an inter company mail driver, retiring in 1986, as a senior system analyst.Bob held many political posts serving as finance chairman for the Rock Island County Board for 12 years. He then was elected Silvis alderman for eight years. He also held the post of Forest Preserve director and was elected Hampton Township supervisor for four years. Bob was very active in Silvis Little League and served as president for several years.Survivors include his wife, Barbara; daughter, Deb (Steve) Erickson, Silvis; son, Robbie (Joyce) Anderson, East Moline; brother, Dan (Caroline) Anderson, Centerville, Va.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom he loved very much.He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ronnie Anderson; and a grandson, Craig Anderson.
